Warriors Hope for Curry and Green’s Return Against Timberwolves
December 6 – Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr hinted at the possibility of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green rejoining the lineup on Friday when the team faces the Minnesota Timberwolves in San Francisco. The game kicks off a rare NBA-style doubleheader, with a rematch scheduled for Sunday, also in San Francisco.
The Timberwolves and Warriors haven’t faced each other yet this season, but their last meeting was memorable for Draymond Green’s altercation with Rudy Gobert, which resulted in a five-game suspension for Green. Minnesota swept that two-game series last November.
Both Curry and Green were sidelined during the Warriors’ recent 99-93 victory over the Houston Rockets due to lingering injuries—Curry with sore knees and Green with a painful left calf. Jonathan Kuminga stepped up in their absence, delivering a career-best 33 points, while Andrew Wiggins contributed 23 points and nine rebounds despite playing through a sore right ankle. The win snapped Golden State’s five-game losing streak and extended their dominance over Houston to 15 straight victories.
Kerr emphasized caution with Curry and Green’s recovery, noting that while their injuries aren’t considered serious, they require careful management. Both players are set for re-evaluation on Friday.
“Andrew really gutted it out,” Kerr said after the Rockets game. “He knew Steph and Draymond were out, and he knew how important this game was. Ironman. He’s been that ever since he’s been here.”
While the Warriors have had success against the Rockets, the Timberwolves present a tougher challenge. Minnesota has won four straight games against Golden State, including a sweep of last season’s three-game series. The Timberwolves are currently riding a streak of strong performances, holding their past three opponents—the Clippers (twice) and Lakers—to 92 points or fewer.
Minnesota guard Donte DiVincenzo, who will return to San Francisco for the first time since leaving the Warriors as a free agent, praised his team’s resilience after recovering from a four-game losing streak.
“We’re focused on ourselves and staying together,” DiVincenzo said. “Stack a few wins, and everybody’s energy changes. So we just got to stay with it.”
DiVincenzo enjoyed his last visit to Chase Center with the Knicks, scoring 18 points in a victory over Golden State in March. He’ll look to make an impact again as the Timberwolves aim to continue their strong run against Pacific Division teams.
