New Zealand Bowl Out England for 280 in Wellington

Brook’s Brilliant Century Sets England on Top Against New Zealand

WELLINGTON, Dec 6 – Harry Brook’s sparkling 123 led England to 280 all out on the opening day of the second Test in Wellington, with New Zealand trailing at 86-5 in reply.

Brook continued his rich form after his match-winning 171 in the first Test, rescuing England from a precarious 43-4 early in the day. The attacking right-hander was the highlight of a thrilling day, bringing his attacking flair to counter the swinging, seaming pitch at Basin Reserve.

Brook’s knock, which included five sixes and 11 fours off 115 balls, was a testament to his fearless approach. Despite a crucial partnership with Ollie Pope (66), Brook was run out in the final over of the second session after a misjudged single.

The Black Caps’ response faltered as England’s seamers, led by Brydon Carse (2-28), took five New Zealand wickets in the last session, leaving them at 86-5 at stumps. Tom Blundell was unbeaten on seven, with nightwatchman Will O’Rourke yet to score.

Nathan Smith was the standout bowler for New Zealand, claiming 4-86, while Matt Henry also played a key role, removing both of England’s openers for ducks.

In the morning, England had lost wickets quickly, with New Zealand’s seam attack keeping them under pressure. Smith and Henry were both instrumental, while the hosts’ sharp catching helped their cause after poor fielding in Christchurch.

With New Zealand needing 195 runs to avoid further damage on Day 2, the match is finely poised for an exciting continuation.
