Scheffler Equals Woods with Third Prestigious PGA Tour Award

Scheffler Equals Woods with Historic Third Consecutive PGA Tour Award

Scottie Scheffler has joined Tiger Woods as the only players in PGA Tour history to win the Player of the Year award for three consecutive seasons.

The world number one claimed his third Jack Nicklaus Award with an overwhelming 91% of the vote from his fellow professionals. Scheffler’s stellar season included seven victories, highlighted by his second Masters triumph at Augusta National in April.

While Rory McIlroy has also won the award three times, only Woods and Scheffler have achieved the feat in consecutive years. Reflecting on the honor, the 28-year-old Texan said, “I think we’re always looking to compare somebody to Tiger Woods. I saw it a lot growing up, but there’s really only one Tiger – that’s just kind of it.”

Scheffler’s dominance also made him the first player since Woods in 2007 to win seven titles in a single season. Woods, who has an unmatched 11 Player of the Year awards, won it five straight times from 1999 to 2003 and three more consecutively from 2005 to 2007.

While his Masters win was a career highlight, Scheffler noted his best golf came during his gold medal victory at the Paris Olympics. “The nine holes that stand out the most for me would be the back nine at the Olympics,” said Scheffler, crediting his caddie, Teddy Scott, for helping him finish strong.
