Revolution trade Esmir Bajraktarevic, acquire forward Luis Díaz

New England Revolution Trade Esmir Bajraktarevic, Sign Luis Diaz

The New England Revolution made significant roster changes on Thursday, transferring forward Esmir Bajraktarevic to PSV Eindhoven and signing Costa Rican forward Luis Díaz.

Bajraktarevic, 19, departs for the Dutch club PSV Eindhoven after three seasons in MLS. The transfer fee remains undisclosed, but New England retains a percentage of his future sell-on rights. Bajraktarevic, a homegrown talent, made 45 appearances (28 starts) for the Revolution from 2022 to 2024, contributing three goals and three assists.

Revolution Sporting Director Curt Onalfo expressed pride in Bajraktarevic’s progression:
“We are happy to facilitate this well-deserved move for Esmir, which will allow him to continue his development in one of Europe’s best leagues for young players. Esmir’s rapid ascent through our pro pathway has positioned him to take this next step in his journey.”

In a corresponding move, the Revolution signed Luis Díaz, 26, on a free transfer from Deportivo Saprissa in Costa Rica. Díaz, who previously played in MLS with the Columbus Crew (2019–2023) and Colorado Rapids (2023), has logged six goals and 14 assists in 86 matches (51 starts).

Díaz reunites with Revolution head coach Caleb Porter, under whom he won the 2020 MLS Cup with Columbus. Porter praised Díaz’s potential impact:
“Luis Díaz is an explosive player who will bring penetration to our attack. He adds a dynamic option that gives us depth and versatility. Luis is in his prime playing years and has been part of winning teams. I’m glad to have him on the squad and look forward to his contributions.”

Díaz signed a one-year contract for the 2025 season, with club options for 2026 and 2027. Holding a U.S. green card, he will not occupy an international roster slot.

These moves mark an important step in the Revolution’s preparations for the 2025 season as they look to bolster their attacking options and support young talent development.
