Texas A&M Shocks No. 1 Auburn in Historic Upset

Zhuric Phelps delivered a clutch performance, scoring 19 points to lead No. 22 Texas A&M to a historic 83-72 victory over top-ranked Auburn on Tuesday night in College Station, Texas. This marks the first time in program history that the Aggies have defeated a No. 1 team, snapping their four-game losing streak in the process.

Wade Taylor IV added 16 points, while Pharrel Payne (12 points), Andersson Garcia (11), and Manny Obaseki (10) helped power Texas A&M (21-9, 10-7 SEC) to the statement win. The Aggies had previously gone 0-9 against No. 1 teams, with their last attempt coming against Auburn in 2022.

For Auburn (27-3, 15-2 SEC), Tahaad Pettiford kept the game competitive, knocking down six three-pointers on his way to 19 points. Chad Baker-Mazara (15 points) and Miles Kelly (12 points, career-high 5 steals) contributed, but National Player of the Year candidate Johni Broome had a quiet night, finishing with just eight points—his second straight single-digit scoring effort.

Texas A&M shot 43.1% from the field, including 9-of-25 from three-point range, while Auburn connected on 50% of their shots and hit 9-of-22 from deep. BYU (22-8, 13-6 Big 12) extended its winning streak to seven games, staying red-hot as March Madness approaches. Egor Demin contributed 12 points to the Cougars’ balanced attack.

For Iowa State (22-8, 12-7 Big 12), Joshua Jefferson led the team with 19 points, while Milan Momcilovic (18 points) and Curtis Jones (16 points off the bench) kept the Cyclones in the fight. However, Iowa State has now lost three of its last four games, raising concerns ahead of the Big 12 Tournament.

UTSA (11-18, 5-12 AAC) put up a strong fight, with Jonnivius Smith leading the team with 18 points, followed by Marcus Millender (16 points) and Primo Spears (14 points, seven assists).

No. 18 Purdue 100, Rutgers 71 – Boilermakers Light It Up from Deep

Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer torched Rutgers from beyond the arc, each hitting a career-high seven three-pointers en route to 23 points apiece, as No. 18 Purdue dominated Rutgers 100-71 in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Trey Kaufman-Renn added 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting, helping Purdue (21-9, 13-6 Big Ten) secure its second straight win after enduring a four-game losing streak.

For Rutgers (14-16, 7-12 Big Ten), Dylan Harper (13 points) and Ace Bailey (12 points) were bright spots, but the Scarlet Knights had no answer for Purdue’s red-hot shooting night.

No. 19 Kentucky 95, LSU 64 – Wildcats Dominate Despite Key Injury

Even without second-leading scorer Jaxson Robinson—who was ruled out for the season due to wrist surgery—No. 19 Kentucky put together a statement 95-64 win over LSU in Lexington, Kentucky.

Otega Oweh led the way with 24 points, hitting 9-of-11 shots, while adding a game-high eight rebounds. Brandon Garrison and Ansley Almonor chipped in with 15 points each, and Collin Chandler contributed 11.

LSU (14-16, 3-14 SEC) struggled without leading rebounder Corey Chest (foot) and third-leading scorer Vyctorius Miller (leg). Robert Miller III (15 points), Cam Carter (14), and Jordan Sears (13) tried to keep the Tigers in the game, but Kentucky’s dominant second half put it out of reach.

Henri Veesaar had a career-high 22 points and eight rebounds, leading No. 24 Arizona to a 113-100 victory over Arizona State in Tucson, Arizona.

The Wildcats (20-10, 14-5 Big 12) saw Caleb Love and KJ Lewis each score 21 points, while Tobe Awaka added 15 points and nine rebounds.

Despite the loss, Arizona State’s Alston Mason had an incredible night, scoring a season-high 33 points, shooting 10-of-17 from the field and 5-of-7 from deep. The Sun Devils (13-17, 4-15 Big 12) were short-handed, with just six scholarship players available and Adam Miller aggravating a hip injury early in the game.

Texas 87, No. 25 Mississippi State 82 (OT) – Longhorns End Losing Streak in Thriller

Tramon Mark scored 24 points, including two clutch free throws in overtime, as Texas outlasted No. 25 Mississippi State 87-82 in Starkville, Mississippi.

The Longhorns (17-13, 6-11 SEC) snapped a three-game losing streak, with Tre Johnson contributing 23 points. Arthur Kaluma had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Kadin Shedrick added 10 points.

Mississippi State (20-10, 8-9 SEC) saw Hubbard lead the way with 16 points, all coming in the second half and overtime. RJ Melendez (15 points), KeShawn Murphy (13), and Cameron Matthews (12) also contributed, but it wasn’t enough to stop Texas from securing the road upset.
