Brewers Acquire RHP Grant Anderson in Trade with Rangers
The Milwaukee Brewers have added to their bullpen by acquiring right-handed reliever Grant Anderson from the Texas Rangers on Thursday. In return, Milwaukee sent minor league left-hander Mason Molina to Texas.
The move came shortly after the Rangers designated Anderson, 27, for assignment on Tuesday to make room on their 40-man roster for newly signed free agent Joc Pederson.
Anderson appeared in 23 relief outings for the Rangers in 2024, logging 26 2/3 innings with a record of 0-1, one save, an 8.10 ERA, 29 strikeouts, and 10 walks. Despite struggles at the major league level, he shined in Triple-A Round Rock, posting a 2.93 ERA, 34 strikeouts, and a 3-0 record with one save over 27 2/3 innings in 26 games. In 2023, Anderson went 2-1 with a 5.05 ERA in 26 MLB appearances.
The Brewers sent Mason Molina, a 21-year-old pitching prospect, to the Rangers in the deal. Molina, a seventh-round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft out of the University of Arkansas, has shown promise early in his professional career. In two starts with Class-A Carolina, he struck out six batters over five shutout innings.
To make room on their 40-man roster for Anderson, the Brewers designated left-handed reliever Tyler Jay for assignment. Jay, 30, pitched in five major league games between the New York Mets and Brewers in 2024, allowing five runs (four earned) over 7 2/3 innings.
This trade reflects the Brewers’ commitment to strengthening their bullpen depth while giving Anderson an opportunity to regain his major league form.
