At just 21 years old, Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul claimed the largest prize in women’s golf history, earning $4 million with a thrilling win at the CME Group Tour Championship on Sunday. Her sensational performance also secured her a total of $5 million in one week, thanks to an additional $1 million Aon Risk-Reward Challenge bonus.
Down by two shots with two holes to play, Thitikul delivered an eagle-birdie finish for the second consecutive day, sealing her victory with a final round of seven-under 65 to end the week at 22 under. Her precision approach on the 18th stopped just five feet from the hole, setting up a decisive birdie putt to edge out the USA’s Angel Yin by one shot.
“This is more than I could have ever asked for,” Thitikul said, beaming after her historic win.
Yin, who had a two-shot lead heading into the final two holes, settled for a $1 million runner-up prize, more than doubling her 2024 earnings. Despite missing the start of the season due to a leg injury, Yin remained upbeat. “I’m pretty awesome … I just need to believe in myself, and that’s what I did,” she said.
New Zealand’s Lydia Ko, the reigning Olympic champion, finished third with a stunning nine-birdie round of 63, ending at 17 under. “I’m excited to work hard this offseason and have another great 2025,” Ko said.
Thitikul’s record-breaking $5 million week marks a new milestone in women’s golf, underscoring her incredible talent and hard work. When asked about her plans for the winnings, she laughed, saying, “Definitely spend it. That’s an honest answer.”
With her historic victory, Thitikul cements her place as one of the brightest stars in the sport, poised for even greater success.
