Justin Thomas confident he can replicate Scottie Scheffler’s 2024 success

Justin Thomas Ready to Reclaim Dominance, Aiming for Career-Best Year in 2025

Justin Thomas, a two-time major champion, is entering the new PGA Tour season with renewed confidence and a clear goal: to return to the winner’s circle and produce a year rivaling Scottie Scheffler’s extraordinary 2024 campaign.

Despite being 2 1/2 years removed from his last victory—a triumph at the 2022 PGA Championship—the 31-year-old remains optimistic about his game as he prepares for the season-opening Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii.

“I still fully believe that I can have a year like Scottie just had,” Thomas said on Wednesday, referencing Scheffler’s dominant seven-win season in 2024, which included victories at the Masters and the Tour Championship. “I have a lot of faith and capability in my game, and I feel like I’m working on the right things.”

Reflecting on Past Success

Thomas’ career-best season came in 2017 when he won five events, including the PGA Championship. Reflecting on that year, he admitted taking winning for granted during his peak.

“I underappreciated (winning) then, for sure,” Thomas said. “I truly felt like I was going to win multiple times every season pretty much, until I lost it a little bit. It’s just so hard to win out here. … You have to do a lot of things correctly and hit the shots and make the putts when you need to.”

Despite a winless 2024 season, Thomas showed flashes of his old form, earning a tie for third at The American Express, a tie for sixth at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and a tie for second at the Zozo Championship. These performances bookended an otherwise inconsistent season, motivating him to elevate his game.

Fired Up for 2025

Thomas’ absence from the U.S. Presidents Cup team last year has added fuel to his fire. He aims to earn a spot on the Ryder Cup team this season and is using the perceived snub as motivation.

“I haven’t had the opportunity to play pissed off for a while, so I’m pretty excited to play a little pissed off this year,” Thomas said.

With his determination, experience, and a focus on refining his skills, Thomas is setting his sights on making 2025 a career-defining season. As he tees off at Kapalua, fans and competitors alike will be watching to see if he can recapture the dominance that once made him one of golf’s most formidable players.
