Miami Marlins Announce Leadership Updates in Baseball Operations

The Miami Marlins have restructured their Baseball Operations leadership, introducing key new hires and promotions. Joe Migliaccio has been named Director of Hitting, Bill Hezel joins as Director of Pitching, and Maxx Garrett has been elevated to Director of Catching.

Joe Migliaccio – Director of Hitting

At 33, Migliaccio steps into the role with an impressive resume, having spent six years in various positions with the New York Yankees. Most recently, he served as their Minor League Hitting Coordinator (2022-24). His responsibilities included player development across multiple levels, including as Hitting Coach at Double-A Somerset (2021) and High-A Tampa (2019-20). Migliaccio also brings collegiate coaching experience from the University of Iowa, the University of Missouri, and Southeast Missouri State. A Florida native, he played as an infielder at Florida International University and Oral Roberts University.

Bill Hezel – Director of Pitching

Hezel, 38, brings expertise from his recent tenure with the Los Angeles Angels, where he served as Assistant Major League Pitching Coach (2023) and Pitching Integration Strategist. Before his time with the Angels, he spent five years at Driveline Baseball, advancing to Director of Pitching (2020-22) while consulting for the Philadelphia Phillies. Hezel also boasts a strong coaching background in collegiate baseball, including roles at Northampton Community College and DeSales University. A New Jersey native, Hezel played collegiately at Lehigh University and East Stroudsburg University.

Maxx Garrett – Director of Catching

Garrett, 34, has been promoted after joining the Marlins last year as Hitting and Catching Coordinator. With a robust five-year stint at Driveline Baseball, Garrett developed advanced catching and hitting programs for elite athletes. His professional playing career spanned six years in independent leagues, and he also played collegiate baseball at Gonzaga University. A native of Kennewick, Washington, Garrett brings an innovative approach to catching development.

These leadership changes signal the Marlins’ commitment to bolstering their player development infrastructure at all levels.
