Rishabh Pant Named Captain of Lucknow Super Giants for IPL 2025
Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is set to take the helm as captain of the Lucknow Super Giants in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), replacing KL Rahul, who led the team through their first three seasons. Pant’s appointment comes after Lucknow secured his services in the November players’ auction for a record $3.21 million, the highest-ever price paid in the tournament’s history.
Pant, who previously captained the Delhi Capitals for three seasons, shared his enthusiasm for the new challenge during a press conference in Kolkata. “It’s a fresh start, and I’m excited to bring new energy to the team,” he said. “Lucknow has placed tremendous faith in me, and I’m determined to deliver results and enjoy the journey.”
Lucknow Super Giants had a promising start to their IPL journey, reaching the playoffs in their first two seasons, though they fell short of advancing last year. Pant emphasized that his approach to leadership would remain consistent, focusing on fostering confidence and clear communication within the team.
“My philosophy as captain is simple—trust your players and give them the clarity they need,” Pant explained. “When players feel supported, they can achieve incredible things. We’ll set defined roles, maintain open dialogue, and most importantly, instill a never-say-die attitude. Performance may vary, but the effort and commitment on the field should never waver.”
The upcoming IPL season is scheduled to run from March 21 to May 25, with Pant eager to lead his new team into what promises to be another thrilling chapter in the league’s history.
