Chiefs Re-Sign DE Charles Omenihu to One-Year, $7M Deal
The Kansas City Chiefs have re-signed defensive end Charles Omenihu to a one-year, $7 million contract, according to an ESPN report. The 27-year-old Omenihu made a notable impact during the 2024 season, recording one sack in six games, including one start. His postseason performance was also key, as he added another sack and forced a fumble during the Chiefs’ three-game playoff run.
Omenihu’s 2024 season was affected by a significant injury, as he missed the first 11 games recovering from a torn ACL suffered during the AFC Championship Game against Baltimore in January 2024. Prior to that injury, he had an eventful start to his tenure with the Chiefs, as he served a suspension for the first six games of the 2023 season due to a violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy. The suspension followed his arrest in January 2023 on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic assault.
Originally a fifth-round pick by the Houston Texans in 2019, Omenihu has built a solid NFL career. Over his career, he has accumulated 19.5 sacks, 53 quarterback hits, 101 tackles, and six forced fumbles in 78 career games, including 12 starts. His time has been spent with the Texans (2019-2021), San Francisco 49ers (2021-2022), and the Chiefs, where he hopes to continue contributing to their defensive line. With his new contract, Omenihu will be expected to make an even greater impact as Kansas City aims to maintain its status as a top contender in the league.
